Description: Located just outside the Ellicott City Historic District, Phase One of this project for the Howard County Department of Housing & Community Development added senior housing to an existing multi-family community. This 3-story apartment building is ADA accessible, and includes several room styles. The ground floor, which has nine efficiency apartments, was designed with the flexibility to be transformed into an assisted living facility, should the County decide to develop and staff such a facility.
An attached community room, with restrooms and a pantry kitchen, is accessed via both a separate public entrance and a conditioned breezeway from the apartment building. It affords program and meeting space for seniors and all members of the community.
Following the completion of the Tiber Hudson Senior Apartment Building, the Housing Commission demolished the adjoining townhomes and apartment buildings and built Burgess Mills Station, a mix of new townhomes and apartments. The County built a new Roger Carter Community Center adjoining Burgess Mills Station, completing a long-term plan to redevelopment the entire Tiber Hudson community.
